Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province is located in
Zagros Mountains, in northwestern part of Iran. In view of high altitude and
having considerable amount of snow, the province is home to numerous natural
tourist attractions in the form of rivers, jungles, waterfalls and springs.
When is the best time to visit Chaharmahal and
Best season to travel to Chaharmahal and
Bakhtiari province is end of spring and summer, the nature is in its most
beautiful shape and you can soak up the atmosphere of fresh weather when many
other Iran cities are spending a hot season. Bakhtiari Nomads who emigrate to
cold areas in summer set up their tents in pristine nature and their
hospitability can be a highlight for your trip, you can stay with them for
hours, eat their dairy products and apart from the spectacular scenery, you
will have the rare opportunity to camp in a remote part of rural area and
experience local life in its un spoilt state.
Despite the advantages of traveling to
Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province in summer, you can have many other
experiences in other seasons as well.
Chelgerd ski resort (90 k.m. far from Shahrekord
and 200 k.m. far from Isfahan) in winter attracts many skiers from all over
And Fritillaria in Koohrang area
(100 k.m. far from Shahrekord) is one of the main destinations for travelers in
April and May.
It is not easy to offer a specific plan for
visiting Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, it wouldn't be a cultural tour
with determined destinations. I have visited this province several times and
nature always had something to surprise me, I mean it is enough to just go for
a wonder around, drive through nature deeper and Wow! you will see a waterfall
or spring you haven't seen before.
I'm going to offer an itinerary which I have
offered to different travelers and they have enjoyed it. It is practical for
everybody not just professional climbers or adventurers, and it also planned
short enough as a rest after visiting many UNESCO or historical parts.
An itinerary to visit Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari
Best place you can start the tour is Isfahan,
Isfahan is a main destination when you visit Iran and fortunately it is close
enough to the breathtaking province of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari.
So, we start the tour from Isfahan at 8:00 a.m.,
after driving 100 K.m. you'll arrive in beautiful Saman city. Saman is located
in the border of Zayandeh rood river, so it is a green city with fresh air and
the farms are full of Almond and Walnut trees.
Saman has few bridges on top of Zayandeh Rood
River's path but the most famous yet older one is Zamankhan Bridge. Expect
walking around the river, taking photos and having picnic, there are some extra
activities like zip line from one side of the river to the other side and
rafting in roaring waters is really exciting and passing through farms,
gardens, local's houses makes it more special.
After Saman we will go to Dimeh Spring, it is 96
k.m. far from Saman. Dimeh spring is one of the richest water sources of the
world and it is very useful for teeth and considered as a medicine for Kidney
IIn this cold and fresh water you can see lots of
fish breeding pools and it gives you the best offer for the lunch, a very tasty
fish Kebab (barbecue).
Near the river there is a huge land that
Bakhtiari Nomads celebrate their weddings there, if you were lucky to be there
in right time, you would watch their colorful ceremony and group dancing.
After lunch and rest in the beautiful landscape
it is time to go to Koohrang tunnel (waterfall), Koohrang tunnel is a human
made path to gather different water sources and join them to Zayandeh rood
river. And thanks to gravity, drops fall down sharply and make a mesmerizing
scene with a special sound.
Near Koohrang there are many clean suites for
staying at night and the sound of the waterfall at the silence of the night and
also the pleasant weather encourage tourists to rest the night there.
You can start the second day with a delicious
breakfast near the waterfall's altars and then drive 12 k.m to marvelous Sheikh
Ali Khan waterfall.
Sheikh Ali Khan waterfall is an amazing natural
attraction and it is famous for hiking, bird-watching and sightseeing.
Chama Cave (Ice Cave) is the next interesting
phenomena which is Located in deep valleys and snow accumulation of several
years in this cave has made tick and strong ice and snow masses to remain
permanently in all seasons.
You should check the situation before going
there, sometimes the height of the water in cave is too high for visiting.

It is time to drive to the wonderful village of
Sar Agha Seyyed to eat a homemade tasty lunch and spend time with locals to see
their in-depth life.
"Sar Agha Seyyed" is located at an
altitude of 2500 meters above sea level, its houses are all adorns and the
windows and doors of all houses open to green land. Sar Agha Seyyed is a
village with a hilly architecture. The adobe houses are packed one above
another in a way that the roofs of the lower houses form the yard or a small
pass-way for the upper ones. In the past, the village was one of the Bakhtari
nomadic bungalows and most of residents are Bakhtiari Nomads as well. If you
pass through the village in June, you can still see
nomadic emigrants from Khuzestan to Chahar Mahal
You can enjoy wild, delightful nature with green
orchards, water springs, and a refreshing mountainous climate and after rest
for a few hours, you can drive back to Isfahan.
What is the souvenir of this area?
Due to rich nature, many people especially in
villages are farmers or ranchers and agriculture and animal products like
honey, curd, almond, walnut, dries cherry are considered as the souvenir of
Bakhtiari Carpet, Kilim and felt products have
their own clients too.

Atashgah waterfall, choghakhor lagoon, Pire Ghar, Siasard spring, Helen
